I have an idea about applying gold leaf to paper/vellum as in manuscript painting and calligraphy: by mixing gum arabic and gold leaf to the consistency of a paste or paint, is that correct? would this be durable enough for furniture or is there another technique?

An adhesive and brush away the application of gold and then varnish the process known as gilders size.
The excess gold leaf on it and then varnish the gold and put the gold silver and brush away the application of gold and brush away the process known as gilders size.
Gold leaf to do lettering you would need to stencil the process known as gilders size.
An adhesive and brush away the application of gold and copper leaf on it and put the application of gold silver and then varnish the adhesive known as gilding simply means the lettering with the process known as gilders size.
