How can you tell if gold is real?

Someone is trying to sell me a gold necklace. I do not know the person well and they do not work for any store or anything like that. The person is trying to sell me a 14k gold necklace. I want to make sure that the gold is real before I buy it. What are some quick and simple ways to test the gold to see if its real. Please respond with serious answers. Thanks in advance to all who answer.

What are the best Gold Coast theme parks for little kids?

We are spending a week in Jan 08 on the Gold Coast. Our kids are quite young (1 , 4 and 7) and I wonder if some of the theme parks will be a waste of money as they are aimed at older kids. Has anyone got any suggestions on the best parks for little kids?

How much does it usually cost to have a gold ring resized?

How much on average does it cost to resize a gold ring? And are there any limits on how much a ring can be resized?
Also, where would a good place be to get it resized?

How can you tell real gold earrings from fake?

My aunt brought me back two pairs of earrings that she says are gold. I dont think they are. She gave me them in a cheap read heart box that lookes like it came from The Dollar Store. I dont know if she even checked if they were real gold. Any ways to easily tell if they are fake?

Why is it said that buried gold gives off a bluish flame at night?

My father used to tell me stories about buried treasures and precolumbian gold. Supossedly, the buried gold would produce a blue flame that could be seen at night, and the country people and farmers would go out at night tracing this flames in order to find the treasure. Is this scientifically possible?
